Here are a few photos of a demo workshop we held recently at a local festival in Ochiai, Tokyo. Hopefully the images give you a clearer picture of what we do in a Music Together class and what the program is about and the philosophy that guides it.

`Hello Everybody`
`Hello Everybody`. This is what we call a `ritual song`, we sing it at the begining of every class. Children soon enjoy the comfort of a familiar song and it signals to them that it`s music time . . .

Hello everybody~”この曲はいわゆる”お決まりの曲”つまり、毎回クラスの始めに歌う曲です。子ども達はすぐにこの親しみやすい曲を心地よく楽しむようになります。また、この歌はこれから音楽の時間が始まる合図になります。

Experimenting with egg shakers
Experimenting with egg shakers. We explore a number of different percussion instruments in class, finding different ways to play with them. It is not about `copying` the teachers way to use them, all ways are valid ways and we often take our cue from the children and we follow the actions that they do with their eggs. There is easily more than a 101 ways to make music with an egg shaker.

エッグシェーカーを体験しているところです。クラスでは曲をいろいろな方法で楽しむように様々な楽器や小物を使います。これらを使って先生のしている事をただまねるだけではありません。子どもが発見したやり方をみんなでまねして動くように指示することもよくあります。エッグシェーカーで音楽作りを楽しむ方法はゆうに101通りを超えます。

Music Together is about supporting and nurturing your child`s love of music
Music Together is about supporting and nurturing your child`s love of music. You do not need to be a good singer or play an instrument to teach your child about music. The most important thing you can do for your young child is show them how much YOU love music and singing, dancing, and jamming with them. This will support them and help them grow up with music in their lives, and experience all the joy that comes with that.

Music Togetherは子どもが音楽を好きになるように支え、はぐくむものです。子どもに音楽を教えるために歌が上手く歌えたり、楽器を演奏することができたりしなくてもいいのです。あなたが子どものためにできる一番大切な事は、あなたがどれほど音楽が好きか、歌ったり踊ったりみんなとあわせて演奏することが好きかを示す事なのです。 こうして子どもは音楽とともに成長し、またその喜びを経験する事ができます。

A singalong storybook. Stories aren`t just for reading, we can `sing` them too. Sitting down with your child and looking through a singalong storybook not only allows them to `play` with a song, there are a number of activities you can do to support early literacy skills.

Singalong の絵本。絵本は、ただ読み聞かせるだけでなく、歌いながら読む事もできます。子どもと一緒に座って、一緒に歌うだけではなく、いろいろな動作をすることで子どもの読み書きの能力を支える事ができます。

親も子どもも参加します。 親は先生のリードに従い動き、自分の子どもや他の子どもたちのお手本となります。娘のRoseは、母親である私の膝に座っていますが、他のお母さんのする動きを見ています。クラスは音楽作りのコミュニティーなのです。
