Music Together®’s mission is:

To provide the highest quality music and movement experiences to as many young children as possible and to involve their parents and other adult caregivers, including early childhood professionals.

Basic Principles of the Music Together Philosophy

I. All children are musical.

II. Therefore, all children can achieve basic music competence, which we have defined as the ability to sing in tune and move with accurate rhythm.

III. The participation and modeling of parents and caregivers, regardless of their musical ability, is essential to a child’s musical growth.

IV. This growth is best achieved in a playful, developmentally appropriate, non-performance-orientated learning environment that is musically rich yet immediately accessible to the child’s – and the adult’s! – participation.

Song Collections

Music Together has developed nine non-sequential song collections, each characterized by its own graphic, color, and instrument. These collections each include a recording and songbook and are designed to be used one collection per semester. The collections are not sequential. A family can begin Music Together classes at any semester with any collection.

The music is pitched in just the right range for children’s voices and includes songs, rhythmic chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and instrumental play-alongs, all in a rich variety of tonalities and meters. Original songs and arrangements by the program coauthors make these collections especially unique. Outstanding instrumentalists play a variety of instruments, such as guitar, bass, flutes, keyboards, and percussion. And all of the songs are suitable for mixed-age groups, perfect for childcare centers or families with children of different ages.

Music Together’s song collections are research-based and artistically conceived and produced. They are also classroom- and family-tested. Since 1987, the feedback of hundreds of teachers and thousands of families has been incorporated into these constantly evolving materials

Music Togetherの心

Music Togetherでは、４つの理念が軸とされています。　それは、

１．　人間は音楽を表現する生き物
２．従って音楽豊かな環境では、誰もが基本的音楽能力を養うことができる
３．子どもは各自の発達段階に適し、成果を求められていない「遊び」の中から多くのことを学んでいく
４．　親や養育者が実践し、お手本となることは子どもの学びの過程に不可欠なものとなります。

これらの理念を軸に、クラスでは純粋な音楽作りの楽しさを子どもも大人も体験することと、Music Togetherの教育理念を噛み砕き、わかりやすく伝授するParent Education(親への教育)も大切なものとしてご提供します。

ソングコレクション

４５分のクラスでは学期で決められているCD（Collectionと呼ばれます）から選ばれた曲を、簡単なリズム楽器などでリズムをとり歌ったり、簡単なダンスやムーブメントで楽しみます。（毎週どの曲が選択されるかわからないので、そのワクワク感も楽しみのひとつです）　同じ曲でも、ある週は楽器を使ってリズムをとったり、ある週は踊ったり、またある週ではリズムスティックでリズムを表現したり・・・無限にあるさまざまな音楽の楽しみ方をクラスで体験することによって、日常生活でも同じように音楽作りを楽しむヒントをたくさん得ることがきます。

Collectionは学期ごとに変わり、３年の周期で繰り返されます。世界中の全センター一斉に同じものを使います。コレクションにはMusic Togetherのオリジナル曲の他、世界のさまざまな国の童謡、民謡などを題材に、ラテン系の歌もあれば、ジャズもあり！Music Togetherがアレンジした歌など、音程、リズム、文化的な違いなどバラエティーに富んだ音楽です。また、生の楽器演奏が基本で電子音は最低限に使用され、年齢に関係なくご家族のみなさんが楽しめる音楽が収録されています。CDと歌の本があることでご家庭でもMusic Togetherを簡単に楽しむことができます。音楽作りの基本は歌うこと。いつでも、どこでも、メロディーとリズムあふれる音楽生活がはじまることでしょう。
